Back to the Highlands

After a long few days over land and sky, we’ve arrived safely and soundly in PNG.

Thanks to all of you who prayed for the journey.  It went as well as we could hope – better perhaps, thanks to a refreshing stop in New Zealand with an old friend.  The house is still a disaster from all the unpacking that has only just begun, but the boys are already adjusting well to our new rhythms of life (though apparently Finn’s dinosaurs all experienced some unwitting trauma).

It’s always a bit of a shock to the system leaving the States in the midst of winter and dropping into a tropical December.  Christmas lights are still being hung here, and carolers have already stopped by our house twice in the last few days – but it all seems a bit fantastical next to the flowers blooming in the heat of summer.

Just before we returned, our community celebrated all of the Scripture that had been translated, written or recorded this year throughout Papua New Guinea.  It’s one of our favorite events of the year, as it reminds us of the larger reason we’re here at all, and why we keep coming back.  Thankfully, one of our friends made a brief video of the ceremony, which provides a nice glimpse at the many languages and people who are hearing these portions of God’s Word for the very first time.  If you have a minute and a half on your hands, it’s well worth the watch:
